‘Hey Hey Its Esther Blueburger’ is a delightful comedy about coming of age and being an outsider in an all girl’s school. Jewish teen Esther Blueberger, played by Danielle Cantanzariti who escapes her Bat Mitzvah to hang with Sunni (Castle-Hughes) single mum Mary (Toni Collette). This is a delightful look at the problem of fitting in when you are different from everyone else. Esther attends a private girl’s school where life is numbingly boring and she does not belong. Home is just as boringly conformist where success is everything. Then she meets Sunni (Keisha Castle-Hughes, Whale Rider) who, as her outrageous mentor, shows her that she must be true to herself.
Sunni’s mother Mary (Tony Collette) rounds off the total sense of ridiculous fun that makes up this delightful movie.
Written and directed by debut filmmaker Cathy Randall the film stars Danielle Catanzariti, Toni Collette, Keisha Castle-Hughes and Jonny Pasvolsky.
